Event Summary

StorageGRID reports CassandraRepairServiceNotAvailable indicating the Cassandra repair service is not available. The Cassandra repair service exists on all Storage Nodes and provides critical repair functions for the Cassandra database. If this condition persists for more than 48 hours, client queries, such as bucket listings, might show deleted data.

If AutoSupport is enabled, an automatic case will be opened with symptom:

CSTARS:StorageGRID Notification from <serial> (CSTAR_ISSUE) ERROR

Validate

Verify if the Cassandra reaper service is "running" on each storage node by going to Support > Grid Topology > Storage Node > SSM > Services

Resolution

  1. Confirm that all nodes are up and running:
  2. Try restarting the service:
  3. Confirm that there are no network or NTP connectivity issues:
  4. Confirm there are no high utlization issues such as low available node memory
  5. Verify if there is an expansion or decommission ongoing. Re-asses the alert once the expansion or decommission is finished.
  6. Upgrade to the latest StorageGRID 11.5 or StorageGRID 11.6 version as these versions have several fixes for known issues with the reaper service
  7. Contact NetApp Technical Support if unable to resolve the alert
