Description
Cloud Volumes ONTAP now supports General Purpose SSD (gp3) disks, starting with the 9.7 release.
gp3 disks are the lowest-cost SSDs that balance cost and performance for a broad range of workloads.
Procedure
Note that for DP volumes, the existing snapmirror relationship must be broken prior to executing the disk change operation. It can then be reestablished after the disk change is complete.
- Enter the Working Environment for the CVO cluster, then the Volumes view and select the 'Manage Volume':

- Next, select the 'Advanced Actions', then 'Change Disk Type':

- Then from the drop-down panel, select the desired disk type :

- Then finally, select 'Change' to commit the operation and begin the disk type migration.

WARNING: This method is not officially supported and should only be explored as a last resort as it can cause data loss!

- Go to the AWS console
- Stop the CVO (this step is required to ensure data integrity)
- Modify the volume by changing the Volume Type from gp2 to gp3
- The minimum throughput recommended by Cloud Manager for a gp3 disk is 250 MB/s. Learn more about using gp3 disks with Cloud Volumes ONTAP.
- Start the CVO when the change is complete (Timing is up to AWS and can take a few hours)
