How to troubleshoot SNMP communication by using SNMPwalk
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- SNMP
- OnCommand Insights (OCI)
- Data Infrastructure Insights (DII)
Description
The SNMPwalk utility is a method that is used to test the connectivity.
For example:
If the host system does not collect information from a NetApp storage system, this utility can be used to verify if there are no network issues preventing communication, and that the storage system does indeed respond to queries.
The SNMPwalk utility is an SNMP application that uses SNMP GETNEXT requests to query a network entity for a tree of information. SNMP queries are requests for information that are sent to the storage system, and the system responds with the appropriate information.
The SNMPwalk utility should be used to test SNMP communication. Run the utility from the same system that will initiate the connection with the cluster.
- For OCI, you will run it from OCI itself (for local acquisition) or from the Remote Acquisition Unit (RAU)
- For DII, you will run it from the DII Acquisition Unit
