Why does AFF or ASA storage config show as Single-Path HA
Applies to
- AFF-A800, AFF-C800, ASA-A800, ASA-C800
- AFF-A250, AFF-C250, ASA-A250, ASA-C250, FAS500f
- Internal-only NVMe storage drives
Answer
- An AFF or ASA storage system installed with internal-only NVMe solid-state drives (SSDs) will show Single-Path HA for its System Storage Configuration in sysconfig nodeshell CLI output:

- Single-Path HA is expected and normal
- Each controller in the chassis has a single direct PCIe-based connection to each NVMe SSD installed in the system's internal shelf.
- Host Bus Adapter (HBA) ports for these internal connections are virtual, i.e.
Virtual NVMe Host Adapter 0n
- If external storage shelves are added to the system, then System Storage Configuration should show as Multi-Path HA if the external shelves are correctly cabled.
Additional Information
- For external storage shelf supported by a specific storage system, see: NetApp Hardware Universe
