Power Fault Alert - Autosupport Message

Event Summary

The messages below indicates one of the following conditions:

  • Power supply has been turned off or unplugged.
  • Power to the data center or to/from the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) either failed or fluctuated.
  • Shelf power supply has malfunctioned.
  • Faulty power cable
  • Circuit breaker tripped and later power has been restored.

A syslog message indicates which one of the above conditions exist. Power Supply (2) is redundant in the shelves.

[ses.status.psWarning:warning]: DS14-Mk2-AT shelf 1 on channel 2a power warning for Power supply 2: non-critical status; DC undervoltage fault. This module is on the rear side of the shelf, at the right.       
[ses.status.psError:CRITICAL]: DS14-Mk2-AT shelf 1 on channel 2a power error for Power supply 2: critical status; power supply failed. This module is on the rear side of the shelf, at the right.

AutoSupport message: Shelf Power Interrupted

Validate

Verify which shelf is reporting the error. The error message indicates the shelf ID and channel, but this might not be useful in locating the component with an error. To check the component(s) with an issue, run the  environment status command, which will print the complete status for every shelf.

Resolution

  • Verify which shelf is reporting the error. The error message indicates the shelf ID and channel, but this might not be useful in locating the component with an error. To check the component(s) with an issue, run the  environment status command, which will print the complete status for every shelf.
  • Check the site for power issues.
  • Check power cable with a known working cable.
  • Check that both fans are turning. If one fan is turning slower, it can signal a failing power supply.
  • Check if the power supply is working; a red light should be ON. If the shelf power supply has malfunctioned, it might require a replacement. If you need a replacement shelf power supply, contact NetApp Technical Support or request a replacement using the NetApp Support site.
