Description

To use the LOADER command of boot_recovery (typically during a boot media replacement) ONTAP requires a USB flash drive (also referred to as thumb drive, memory stick, or pen drive) configured as the following:

  • FAT32 partition of at least 4GB and no more than 256GB in size
  • MBR partition style for ONTAP prior to ONTAP 9.7
  • MBR or GPT partition style for ONTAP 9.7 or greater

If the existing USB flash drive meets this criterion, do not follow the article as the requirements are already met for the boot_recovery process.
