Aggregate degraded as one disk is offline due to a failure

Issue

  • Multiple single-disk errors trigger that disk offline for recovery purposes. Example:

[node_name: config_thread: raid.disk.assign.offline_ref:debug]: aggregate /data_aggregate/plex0/rg0/0a.01.1 assigned as an offline reference storage for /data_aggregate/plex0/rg0/0a.01.5.
[node_name: config_thread: raid.disk.assign.offline_ref:debug]: aggregate /data_aggregate/plex0/rg0/0a.01.3 assigned as an offline reference storage for /data_aggregate/plex0/rg0/0a.01.5.
[node_name: config_thread: raid.rg.degraded:notice]: : Raid group /data_aggregate/plex0/rg0 is degraded
[node_name: config_thread: raid.disk.offline:notice]: Marking Disk /data_aggregate/plex0/rg0/0a.01.5 Shelf 1 Bay 5 [NETAPP   X123_ABCDE1F2G34 NA02] S/N [12345678] UID [00000000:::::::::00000000] offline.

  • RAID group and aggregate are degraded during the offline disk status. Example:

Aggregate data_aggregate (online, raid_dp, degraded) (block checksums)
  Plex /data_aggregate/plex0 (online, normal, active, pool0)
    RAID group /LF_FAS8200_801A_data_aggregate/plex0/rg0 (degraded, block checksums)
      RAID Disk    Device      HA  SHELF BAY CHAN Pool Type  RPM  Used (MB/blks)    Phys (MB/blks)

  • When ONTAP recovers the disk, the RAID group and aggregate change back to normal status. Example:
