Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.9 and lower
  • SnapLock Enterprise
  • SnapLock Compliance

Answer

  • Non-SnapLock  data or root volume can not be moved to SnapLock aggregates
  • A cluster needs to have at least one data aggregate which is not of type SnapLock
  • When using the volume move start command the following error will be observed for root volumes:
    • Error: command failed: Unable to move volume "svm_root" in Vserver "svm_name" to aggregate "aggr_name". Source and destination aggregate SnapLock types do not match.

Additional Information

Starting from 9.10.1 where we introduced Unified aggregates we support non-snaplock and snaplock volumes on 1 aggregate.
See How do SnapLock Unified Aggregates work for ONTAP 9.10.1 and later?
