- The Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) is a standardized protocol for controlling backup, recovery, and other types of data transfer between primary and secondary storage devices, such as storage systems and tape libraries.
- NDMP, and its use of dump and restore, can be used to copy data between different locations within, or between, storage systems.
- These storage systems can run different releases and/or operate in different modes of Data ONTAP. NetApp, and others, provide several utilities to facilitate copying of data using NDMP.
- This article describes how to enable to use a few of these techniques to copy data using NDMP.
