Answer

You can monitor the physical status of the switch by observing the status of the fans, power supply status, and temperature. Here, below information covers Temperature threshold which is measured in degrees Celsius.

The temperature sensors and power levels are read about every 30 seconds. Fan speeds are also updated in accordance with the temperature status level.

Critical:

  • Over-temperature:

If a temperature sensor reaches 61C, a timer is started and the admin is warned with an ALERT level message being logged with the message 'Critical temperature reading' . This timer expires in two minutes. If the temperature falls to 60C or below, the timer is stopped. Upon expiry of the timer, the system is shutdown by removing power.

  • Under-temperature:

If a temperature sensor reaches 0C, a timer is started and the admin is warned with an ALERT level message being logged with the message 'Critical temperature reading' . This timer expires in two minutes. If the temperature rises above 0C, the timer is stopped. Upon expiry of the timer, the system is shutdown by removing power.

  • Warning threshold:

Temperature rises to 54C Note: It will not leave the warning state until the temperature falls to 49 or below. This is intended to reduce oscillations between NORMAL and WARNING state. The result is that temperatures 50-53C can show either NORMAL or WARNING '

The following example displays normal output for the "show environment"
command:
(switch_name) #show environment
Temp (C)....................................... 40
Fan Speed, RPM................................. 9300
Fan Duty Level................................. 75%
Temperature traps range: 0 to 60 degrees (Celsius)

Temperature Sensors:
Unit Sensor Description Temp (C) State Max_Temp (C)
---- ------ ---------------- ---------- -------------- --------------
1 1 CPU & SWITCH 40 Normal 48
1 2 Left PHY's 40 Normal 42
1 3 Right PHY's 0 Warning 46
