Answer

  • Yes, an E-Series array can have both Dynamic Disk Pools (DDPs) and traditional volume groups at the same time.
  • Keep in mind that a DDP requires a minimum of 11 drives.
  • For traditional volume groups, the minimum required drive count depends on the RAID level.

Examples: 

  • With an E2860 (60-drive array), you have enough drives for multiple dynamic disk pools and volume groups.
  • With an E2812 (12-drive array), you only have enough drives for one DDP and a single drive RAID0 volume group (1 drive with no parity). A DDP and RAID1/5/6 would not fit.
