ONTAP Select: SYNCMIRROR PLEX FAILED due to loss of connectivity of backing storage

Issue

  • The OTS cluster triggers a SYNCMIRROR PLEX FAILED alert due to a node within the HA pair rebooting unexpectedly.
  • From the host logs, more specifically the vmware.log, we can see heartbeat failures around the time of the SYNCMIRROR PLEX failure alert from ASUPS.

  • From hostd.log within the ESXi host log bundle, we can see that the backing volume (iscsi1) mounted to the host which the affected OTS node resides on, losses connectivity to the host at the time of the SYNCMIRROR PLEX FAILED alert.
