Primary LUNs in SnapMirror active sync marked as degraded during network failure

  • ONTAP 9.11.1 and earlier
  • SnapMirror active sync (formerly known as SnapMirror Business Continuity (SM-BC))

Issue

  • I/O disruption to the primary site occurs when the following all events occurres :
    • Network failure between the primary and the secondary site
    • SnapMirror active sync consistency group is in "out of sync"
    • ONTAP Mediator is not reachable from the primary site
  • EMS log shows the following messages
    • [<NODE>: scsit_lu_0: scsiblade.san.ssm.lu.degraded:alert]: LUN <LUN_Serial> was marked as degraded due to a SnapMirror Automated Failover relationship going out of sync.
    • [<NODE>: mgwd: sm.mediator.misconfigured:alert]: ONTAP Mediator is not accessible on cluster "<CLUSTER_NAME>" with Mediator IP address "<ONTAP_MEDIATOR_IP>".
