Issue

  • The admin initiated an ONTAP cluster image update from 9.13.1P10 to 9.13.1P15 on a cluster with AFF A900, ASA A900 or FAS9500 storage systems .
  • They were using the "pause-after all" option to check the status of SAN initiator connections after takeover operations.
  • 9.13.1P15 includes new BIOS and PCI switch chip firmware updates. It was observed that the automated nondisruptive upgrade (ANDU) paused at the "paused-by-user" state after takeover, but the PCI switch firmware was still updating.
  • The action message shows:
Status: Paused by user. Use the "cluster image resume-update" command to resume the update.
  • The admin tried resuming the update, but the PCI switch firmware update was still in progress.
  • This conflicting status information resulted in confusion – the admin was not certain of the upgrade status of the cluster.
