  • Operational-status of bays are showing as 'unknown' for no-drive slots from ONTAP 9.17.1
  • This is confirmed from ONTAP CLI via command where bay-ids with no disk shows "UNKNOWN" status and bay-Ids with disk inserted shows "NORMAL" status (when there are no actual issues with shelf/drives):

storage shelf show -fields bay-id, bay-op-status

  • Till ONTAP 9.16.1 onwards, both empty and non-empty drives were showing "NORMAL" status
  • ONTAP System Manager/Swagger Page does not display/return any details from empty shelf-bays
