Answer

  • After ONTAP enables FlexCache, the command statistics top file show may show lots of deleted inode. 
  • The RAL is a feature in the NetApp WAFL® system that enables FlexCache to have a revocable read/write or read-only cache granted on an inode by the origin to a cache. This is the feature that enables FlexCache functionality.
  • The RAL is the function FlexCache uses to enable loading and manipulation of content from any volume inside or outside of the cluster to the origin. RAL is a traffic cop to keep the requests, data, delegations, lock requests, and any other information between the FlexCache and the origin in sync.
  • So the deleted inode is not the user level triggered, it is the FlexCache functionality.
