  • -atime-update (Access Time Update)

Answer

-atime-update (access time update) is a volume-level field to manage access time updates on files and directories that are read using READ, READLINK, and READDIR.

It is recommended to disable -atime-update in the following scenarios due to possible performance impacts:

  • When using FlexCache in ONTAP versions earlier than 9.11.1
  • When using SQL workloads
  • When using VMware Virtualization for ONTAP

Note: when using FabricPool, enabling -atime-update is not required because FabricPool works at the block level.
