Unable to access CIFS using IP because DNS is unreachable

Issue

  • CIFS is not accessible using an IP address, as SVM is not able to lookup domain controller information from DNS with the error "connection refused.

[Node-02: secd: secd.dns.srv.lookup.failed:error]: DNS server failed to look up service (_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.com) for vserver (svm1) with error (Connection refused).

[Node-02: secd: secd.cifsAuth.problem:error]: vserver (svm1) General CIFS authentication problem. Error: User authentication procedure failed CIFS SMB2 Share mapping - Client Ip = 10.x.x.x  [0] Login attempt by domain user 'domain\user1' using NTLMv2 style security **[    58] FAILURE: Unable to contact DNS to discover domain controllers.   [58] Unable to make a connection (NetLogon:domain), result: 6812   [58] CIFS authentication failed

  • Packet trace collected on storage while DNS error reported shows RST received from DNS server.
