Transient vifmgr.reach.err events observed after ONTAP upgrade

Issue

  • After upgrading from ONTAP 9.15.1 to 9.17.1, multiple nodes may report repeated vifmgr.reach.err events on network ports.
    • EMS log reports:
      vifmgr.reach.err: Network port a0a on node Node2 encountered errors while scanning for reachability. Reachability was detected to the following broadcast domains: -.
    • VIFMGR log reports exception occurred:
      • 0000003e.000ad85c 001e0233 Mon Jul 20 2026 03:13:55 +09:00 [kern_vifmgr:info:8634] [0x80c90ce00] [Net::Reachability::update] exception occurred finding reachability for port e0g: Internal error. Failed to determine the link status of port "e0g" on node "NODE2". Wait a few minutes, then try the command again.

  • network port reachability show reports all ports healthy.
  • Errors occur intermittently after upgrade completion.
