SAS stops with message "ERROR: A lock is not available"

Issue

  • SAS script running on host with IP x.x.x.x stops and logs message:
    • ERROR: A lock is not available for FILE.NAME.
      NOTE: PROC SQL set option NOEXEC and will continue to check the syntax of statements.
      NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors.
      NOTE: PROCEDURE SQL used (Total process time):
            real time           3.50 seconds
            user cpu time       0.03 seconds
            system cpu time     0.00 seconds
            memory              716.06k
            OS Memory           13400.00k
            Timestamp           10/17/2024 11:17:34 AM
            Step Count                        8  Switch Count  0
  • Packet trace shows that ONTAP replies with STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION when x.x.x.x requests to open FILE.NAME
  • Running vserver locks show -vserver <> -volume <> -path <> frequently before and during the error shows that clients x.x.x.x and y.y.y.y both open locks on the file
