ONTAP system panic due to slow root volume

Issue

  • The system becomes sluggish and unresponsive.
  • NAS shares may become unavailable.
  • EMS logs show the following panic string:
mgwd: assertion (0) at src/rdb/TM.cc:3838 failed, raising SIGABRT(6) at RIP 0x81d714d9a (pid 2720, uid 0, timestamp 1667352600)
  • Aggregates may appear in unknown status but otherwise remain online and serving data.
  • Advanced command cluster ring show may show a timeout/failure to communicate with a node:

Warning: Unable to list entries on node cluster-01. Timeout: Operation "cluster_ring_iterator::next_imp()" took longer than 25 seconds to complete [from mgwd on node "cluster-01" (VSID: -1) to mgwd at 169.254.1.123]
Error: show failed: Timeout: Operation "cluster_ring_iterator::next_imp()" took longer than 25 seconds to complete [from mgwd on node "cluster-01" (VSID: -1) to mgwd at 169.254.1.123]
