Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Licenses
  • Systems that have undergone a controller (head) replacement

Issue

  • After replacing the controller (head swap), attempts to activate protocol licenses using the provided 28-character license keys failed.
  • When entering the new license keys, the system either displayed the license owner as “none” or associated the license with the old serial number, instead of the new controller’s serial number.

Example:

::*> license add -license-code <license code>

::*> license show -instance

Serial Number: 1-81-0000000000000XXXXXXXXXXXX <<<<<Old serial number

Owner: none
