ONTAP Cluster interconnect management communication is improperly configured

  • ONTAP 9
  • Cluster Switch Reboot
  • Nodes with more than 2 Cluster LIFs
  • Cluster Network Switch
  • Excludes:
    • ONTAP Select
    • Cloud Volumes

Issue

  • During a switch reboot, the cluster lost quorum.
  • Messages similar to the follwing are present in the mgwd log.

[kern_vifmgr:info:6175] Notice: online_status_callback: RDB unit is offline
[kern_vifmgr:info:6175] [0x808bb4c00] [EventMgr::unitOffline] Setting VifMgr operational status as OOQ

  • This can also happen during an ONTAP upgrade where vifmgr is offline on one node
