Applies to

ONTAP 9

Answer

  • If the requirement is to allow traffic only to the ONTAP from an external Host, the port should be forwarded(opened) with Inbound Setting.
  • If the traffic only needs to move from the ONTAP to an external host it should be Outbound.
  • If the requirement is to exchange traffic to and from the ONTAP it should be bidirectional. In general, if there is no specific condition the ports are always kept bi-directional.
