Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • CRC Errors

Issue

  • Panic of "Possible buffer overrun" occurring continually due to excessive CRC receive side errors on cluster port.  A buffer overflow (or buffer overrun) occurs when the volume of data exceeds the storage capacity of the memory buffer.
     Example:
PANIC: Possible buffer overrun at address 0xfffff83fa2aa4820 from PC 0xffffffff8a084139 (fencepost 0x3) in process NwkThd_00
  • The CRC receive side errors on cluster ports is also causing the cluster network to be degraded
     Example
EMS log: callhome.clus.net.degraded:alert: Call home for CLUSTER NETWORK DEGRADED: CRC Errors detected on port e1a

::> event log show -messagename callhome.clus.net.degraded
