Answer

  • It is perfectly safe to reduce the size of a NAS volume.
  • This is because ONTAP will not allow to reduce the size of a volume to a point smaller than the amount of data it contains.

Additional Information

  • Volume should not be shrinked to bare minimum as it may get full and go offline if it does not have space to accomodate any new data
  • Volume modify
