ICMP packet loss observed on ONTAP system

Issue

  • Frequent network packet loss was reported on management ports (e0M) and data LIFs of NetApp nodes.
  • Intermittent ping drops and pauses were observed, particularly during ICMP ping tests.
  • The following message may be logged in EMS

[?] Wed Jun 10 17:49:50 +0800 [CNAS51-01: kernel: icmp.ping.throttle:notice]: icmp_input: The system dropped 935 ping packets after limiting the packets to 200 per second.

  • Interface statistics (ifstat) showed no hardware errors or drops at the NIC level.
