Applies to

  • ONTAP 9

Description

  • All versions of ONTAP are affected by changes to timezone rules. These rules affect the local offset to the global Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) standard time, as well as the date and time when daylight saving time (DST) starts and ends for a specific geographic location.
  • Changes made by government authorities to the time zone rules in their region are reported to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).
    • IANA releases new versions of the Time Zone Database files a few times a year to reflect the changes.
  • NetApp monitors updates to the IANA repository and automatically obtains the latest files, which are then compiled into the form required by ONTAP.
    • The timezone rules used by ONTAP are a set of binary files, called the zoneinfo files, derived from IANA Time Zone Database.
    • The files are packaged into a bundle that is installed with ONTAP and published to the NetApp support site.
    • Each ONTAP version ships with the version of the zoneinfo files current at the time of release.

Note: The storage system will only need to be updated manually with new zoneinfo files if a change has been made to the specific timezone the storage system is configured in and that change will come into effect before the storage system can be upgraded to a new version of ONTAP that contains the new rules.
