Description

In a FabricPool configuration, unreferenced space is the amount of space that is not referenced by ONTAP but still consumed in the cloud tier

  • There are two sources of unreclaimed space:
    1. Objects with zero ref count that garbage cleaner (GC) has not yet freed
    2. Fragmented objects that either haven't met the defrag threshold or that have met the defrag threshold but the tiering scan has not yet processed

** Note: The terminology Unreclaimed and Unreferenced are used interchangeably and means the same.
