Applies to

  • AFF Models
  • FAS Models
  • ONTAP 9
  • Console connection

Issue

  • When connecting to the console using USB or micro USB console connection, random garbage characters are displayed on the screen similar to below:

LOADER-A> mow}omw

    Invalid command: "mow}omw"

Available commands: savenv, netboot, boot_diags, boot_backup, boot_primary, boot_ontap, update_flash, flash, sp, fc,         decryption, encryption, create_file, tar, version, bye, set, lsmod, autoboot, go,
boot_recovery, boot, load, ndp, ping, arp, ifconfig, show, saveenv, unsetenv, set-defaults, setenv, printenv,         undi, help

    *** command status = Error(-1)

LOADER-A> {oom}ow

  • This constant activity overloads the SP and we cannot process a request.  If no heartbeat is detected for over 15 seconds, NetApp panics and assumes the node is down and will initiate a takeover of the node.
