  • Thin provisioned volumes

Issue

  • It is normally expected that the volume available size =  total size - used size, however, for a thin provisioned volume sometimes the available size is reported as less than the value of (total size - used size).

cluster1::> df -h
Filesystem               total       used      avail    capacity  Mounted on                 Vserver
/vol/vol1/               972GB       200GB     524GB    20%       /vol1                      svm1
/vol/vol1/.snapshot      0           0         0        0%        /vol/vol1/.snapshot        svm1

or
cluster1::> df -h
Filesystem               total       used      avail    capacity  Mounted on                 Vserver
/vol/vol2/               825GB       42GB      0        5%        /vol/vol2                  svm1
/vol/vol2/.snapshot      0           0         0        0%        /vol/vol2/.snapshot        svm1

  • If the capacity is less than 5%, the following event appears.

[XXXX: wafl_spcd_main: monitor.volume.nearlyFull:error]: Volume XXXX is nearly full (using or reserving 95%% of space and 0%% of inodes).

  • Access denial occurs once the avail size of the volume is 0.
