  • ONTAP 9
  • FlexGroup Volumes

Issue

  • Attempting to shrink a FlexGroup volume returns the following error:

cluster1::> volume size -vserver svm1 -volume FG1 -new-size 150TB

vol size: Error setting size of volume "svm1:FG1". Request to shrink FlexGroup volume
"FG1" in Vserver "svm1" failed. Reason: Selected volume size is too small to hold the current
volume data. Select a size of at least 206.2TB (226687849287680B).

  • The FlexGroup volume reports enough used space is below the threshold of the new-size specified with the volume size command:

cluster1::> volume show -vserver svm1 -volume FG1 -fields used

vserver volume used
------- ------ -------
svm1    FG1    140TB
