Answer

When using OTS with ESXi hosts, the following method is recommended for replacing the backing storage array.

  1. Stand up new storage array and configure it identically to the older storage array (networking, datastore type)
  2. Mount the new storage array's volumes to the ESXi hosts which the OTS nodes reside on
  3. Perform Take Over of node1 to node2 to move volumes, aggregates, LIFs non disruprively
  4. Power off node1 VM and SvMotion to the new storage array's datastores
  5. Move the ISO image of node1 from the older storage array's datastore (which was used to create the cluster) to the new storage array's datastore from VM settings in vCenter
    1. Click on older storage array's datastore  and select files-> iso image-> move to-> choose new storage array's datastore as the destination
    2. Set the ISO image path to destination datastore
  6. Power on node1 VM and verify there are no boot errors
  7. Perform GiveBack of node1 from node2 to move the LIFs, aggregates, volumes, etc.. back to node1
  8. Repeat steps for node2
