Node reports StorageSwitchIfIslConfig_Alert for storage switches with Cluster-HA-Storage RCF

  • ONTAP 9
  • Cisco Nexus C9336C-FX2 switches used for storage connections
  • AFF systems with 2 HA pairs connected to the same storage switches
  • NS224 disk shelves

Issue

  • Cluster-HA-Storage RCF is installed on Cisco Nexus C9336C-FX2 storage switches.
  • The StorageSwitchIfIslConfig_Alert is reported in the event logs:

[Node-02: mgwd: callhome.hm.alert.major:alert]: Call home for Health Monitor process cshm: StorageSwitchIfIslConfig_Alert[sw003(FLMXXXXXXXC)/Ethernet1/35].

  • The system health alert reports the following details:

              Node: Node-02
          Resource: Ethernet1/35
          Severity: Major
   Indication Time: Thu Dec 08 14:56:35 2022
          Suppress: false
       Acknowledge: false
    Probable Cause: An ISL link has been detected between storaqe
                    switch:port sw003(FLMXXXXXXXC):Ethernet1/35 and
                    switch:port sw004:Ethernet1/35"
   Possible Effect: Poor storage performance could result.
Corrective Actions: Disconnect the ISL cable connections between the two switches.
