SNMP configuration automatically modified after switch management interface removal
Applies to
- Cisco N9K-C9336C-FX2
- Cisco NX-OS 10.4(5)
- AFF A400
- ONTAP 9.18.1P1
Issue
After temporal disconnection of the switch's management cable the switch's SNMP configuration on node seems different
- SNMP Community string is altered with unknown values
- SNMP version changed from SNMPv3 to SNMPv2c
The altered values can be observed and compared to the unaltered switch. Example:
aff::> system switch ethernet show -device ciscosw-3.sub.domain.com(FLMAABBCCHY)Device Name: ciscosw-3.sub.domain.com(FLMAABBCCHY)IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxSNMP Version: SNMPv3Is Discovered: trueCommunity String or SNMPv3 Username: operaator_ciscoModel Number: N9K-C9336C-FX2Switch Network: storage-networkSoftware Version: Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS) Software, Version 10.4(5)Reason For Not Monitoring: NoneSource Of Switch Version: CDP/ISDPIs Monitored ?: trueSerial Number of the Device: FLMAABBCCHYaff::> system switch ethernet show -device ciscosw-4.sub.domain.com(FLMDDEEFFQR)Device Name: ciscosw-4.sub.domain.com(FLMDDEEFFQR)IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxSNMP Version: SNMPv2cIs Discovered: trueCommunity String or SNMPv3 Username: cshm1!Model Number: N9K-C9336C-FX2Switch Network: storage-networkSoftware Version: Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS) Software, Version 10.4(5)Reason For Not Monitoring: Invalid SNMP settingsSource Of Switch Version: CDP/ISDPIs Monitored ?: falseSerial Number of the Device: Unknownaff::> system switch ethernet show -device * -statusMonitoringSwitch Status Reason------------- ------------ ------------ciscosw-3.sub.domain.com(FLMAABBCCHY)true Noneciscosw-4.sub.domain.com(FLMDDEEFFQR)false Invalid SNMP settings2 entries were displayed.
