Applies to

  • FAS/AFF Systems
  • ONTAP 9
  • Service Processor (SP)

Issue

  • The node management IP and the SP IP are not reachable via ping/SSH.
  • The e0M port shows up from the node side:

Cluster::> system node run -node <node> -command sysconfig -a

slot 0: Gigabit Ethernet I210
        e0M MAC Address:    d0:39:ea:a0:f9:02 (auto-1000t-fd-up)

  • The e0M link is found to be flapping in the event logs:

[Node-01: mgmt_port_link_status_poll: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet Wrench Port: Link down, check cable.
[Node-01: vifmgr: vifmgr.portdown:notice]: A link down event was received on node Node-01, port e0M.
[Node-01: vifmgr: vifmgr.lifmoved.linkdown:notice]: LIF Node-01_mgmt1 (on virtual server 429XXXXX95), IP address 10.XXX.XX.XXX, is being moved to node Node-01, port e0M.
[Node-01: vifmgr: vifmgr.lifBeingRemoved:notice]: LIF Node-01_mgmt1 (on virtual server 429XXXXX95), IP address 10.XXX.XX.XXX, is being removed from node Node-01, port e0M.

[Node-01: mgmt_port_link_status_poll: netif.linkUp:info]: Ethernet Wrench Port: Link up.
[Node-01: vifmgr: vifmgr.portup:notice]: A link up event was received on node Node-01, port e0M.

  • The e0M port has a green LED on it. However, there is no LED on the switch port connected to e0M.
