Node Fails to Boot Due to PCIe Link Degraded

Issue

  • A node in an AFF-A900 cluster experienced an unexpected internal reboot and was taken over by its partner.
  • The following errors were observed in SP/BMC event logs and EMS logs:

SP/BMC Log Output:

Device 169/0/0 (SLOT-5) Link degraded, failed to retrain at max speed
- Expected GEN3, actual GEN1
[SysFW.critical]: IPMI PCI Slot Control failed.
[PCILink:pcie.stealth.link.errors:debug]: performance is not optimal for PLX PCIE8732 switch in slot 5...

EMS Log Output:

[node-01:PCILink:pcie.stealth.link.errors:debug]: performance is not optimal for PLX PCIE8732 switch in slot 5...
