NIC FW update error during ONTAP upgrade

Issue

  • During ONTAP upgrade NIC FW fails
  • Upon boot we see the following messages in the console logs
 
RC NIC fw update error is :1
NIC FW update from kernel error is :1
sp_set_dev_updt_progress call
failed and return value is : 105
Node-01    ERROR         netif.fwUpdateFailed: Firmware update of network interface D15ac-S0-P53/0:8 to version 800006d6 failed :pid-2101-returned-6..
Update VPD with VPD template
Intel(R) Ethernet Connection X552 10 GbE SFP+
        Skipping VPD update with VPD template.
netapp_intel_fw_helper: FW update on e0b/e0a at PCI location 0:8 failed.
 
  • Checking the boot arguments from LOADER prompt we see the following argument is set
LOADER-A> printenv bootarg.net.nic_rc_fw_update_error
