How to modify caching policies of Flash Pool aggregate
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Flashpool Aggregate
- Flash Cache
Description
- Flash Pool is an aggregate that includes both HDD and SDD RAID groups.
- Since ONTAP 9.1 Flash Pool and Flash Cache both work cooperatively together on the same aggregates
- Caching policies define how the system caches volume data in a Flash Pool aggregate or Flash Cache.
- Normally, the default settings are appropriate, but there are situations where it might be required to modify the settings.
- It is important to understand how caching policies work before changing them.
- Only modify the caching policy of a volume(s) only after testing a different caching policy with your workload
- In most cases, the default caching policy
auto
is the best caching policy that you can use. - Configuring the wrong caching policy can severely degrade volume workload performance
- the performance degradation could increase gradually over time.
- If you experience performance issues with a volume for which the caching policy has been changed, you should return the caching policy to auto.
