Datastore contained in NFS Volume is missing data

Issue

  • Unexpected data loss is reported by customer in datastores connected to multiple NFS Volumes
  • PHY count is observed to be above 2000 PHYs on one of the shelves
  • System's topology has +45 DS224 shelves within supported configuration
  • Some drives have not finished disk firmware updates after multiple attempts ongoing for at least 6 months
  • Hardware failures related to the cluster's storage are observed
    • Disk Shelf Faults and disk drive failures are present
    • Faulty disks belong to an aggregate offline for more than two years
  • The affected volumes are contained in an aggregate that is online and does not show degradation
  • Snapshots does not seem to contain the missing data despite being created automatically per schedule
