Can we share a Namespace across two different subsystem?

Answer

  • No,  it is not recommended to map a namespace to two different subsystems or a subsystem consisting of NQNs of two different OS type.

Additional Information

  • NetApp does not recommend mapping the same Lun to two different OS system.  This recommendation is the same with NVME.
  • Ontap will allow you to map the namespace to NQNs/IQNs of different Host OS types. However,   mapping same lun/Namespace to two different Host OS types is not recommended as we may see issues such as data corruption, performance or even read/write issues.
  • With IQNs of same host types being part of an Igroup, you can connect multiple servers to the same LUN, but the following restrictions apply:
    • The operating system should support multiple sharing of the same LUN.
    • The operating system should support a clustered file system.
