Answer

  • A LUN can be restored from ONTAP volume snapshots or external backups
  • In case there are no snapshots or backups, restoring the accidentally deleted LUN is not possible

Additional Information

  • Space reclaimation of the data blocks starts happening immediately after the LUN delete.
  • For MCC clusters, there will be immediate sync happening all the time between the sites .Hence, as soon as the LUN gets deleted, it would be deleted from other site as well.
  • We have volume recovery queue, where volume will be still present for 24 hours or so after deletion , however for the LUNs, there is no such mechanism available.
  • If  commvault is there, it can be used to recover the data as well.
