ANDU paused after callhome.nve.digest.mismatch alert was triggered

Applies to

  • Automated Non-Disruptive Upgrade (ANDU) from versions prior to ONTAP 9.7 to ONTAP 9.11P8.
  • NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE) with External Key Manager

Issue

  1. A callhome.nve.digest.mismatch error is reported in the event log:
    • Mon Jun 19 14:46:37 +0100 [cluster1-01: mgwd: callhome.nve.digest.mismatch:EMERGENCY]: Call home for NVE KEY DIGEST MISMATCH. key ID: 0000000000000000020000000000050068bb669ce5fbb5807e52b7xxxxxxxxxx0000000000000000, Key Server: keyserver.com:5696.
  2. Followed by the ANDU pausing:
    • Mon Jun 19 15:02:15 +0100 [cluster1-01: upgrademgr: upgrademgr.update.pausedErr:error]: The automated update of the cluster has been paused due to the following reason:  Node "cluster1-01": Error: {Giveback of SFO aggregate is vetoed.}, Action: {Use the "storage failover show-giveback" command to view detailed veto status information. Correct the vetoed subsystem. Use the "storage failover giveback -ofnode "cluster1-02" command to complete the giveback.}.
    • Mon Jun 19 15:02:15 +0100 [cluster1-01: notifyd: callhome.andu.pausederr:alert]: params: {'epoch': '19d7bf38-ca12-4417-a418-xxxxxxxxxxxx', 'subject': 'AUTOMATED NDU PAUSED ON NODE: cluster1-01'}
