Issue

  • From AutoSupport: SwitchUnreachable_Alert reported in the system
[Node_01: cshmd: hm.alert.raised:alert]: Alert Id = SwitchUnreachable_Alert , Alerting Resource = SW1(FOCXXXXXXXX) raised by monitor ethernet-switch

[Node_01: cshmd: hm.alert.raised:alert]: Alert Id = SwitchUnreachable_Alert , Alerting Resource = SW2(FOCXXXXXXXX) raised by monitor ethernet-switch
  • One or more nodes failed communicating with the cluster switches
  • Following also seen when you run below command
    • undcdsa-fasb12::> system health alert show
                     Node: undcdsa-fasb12
                 Alert ID: SwitchUnreachable_Alert
          Resource: undcdsa-nsdb01(FDO26390U4P)
                 Severity: Major
          Indication Time: Mon Mar 10 14:42:11 2025
       Suppress: false
              Acknowledge: false
Probable Cause: The ethernet switch's IP address is not reachable fromthe local node.
Possible Effect: Monitoring of the switch and log collection will not function.
Corrective Actions: Ensure that the IP address is reachable or specify the correct reachable IP address.

                     Node: undcdsa-fasb12
      Alert ID: UnsupportedSwitch_Alert
                 Resource: undcdsa-nsdb01(FDO26390U4P)
                 Severity: Major
          Indication Time: Mon Mar 10 14:42:33 2025
                 Suppress: false
              Acknowledge: false
Probable Cause: Unsupported Ethernet switch is detected.
Possible Effect: Communication problems and network connectivity issues occur.
Corrective Actions: Unsupported Ethernet switch "undcdsa-nsdb01(FDO26390U4P)" found. Connectsupported Ethernet switch to the network.

  • The cluster switch is not under monitoring by the Cluster Switch Health Monitor (CSHM):
    • ClusterA::> system switch ethernet show
      Switch                      Type               Address          Model
      --------------------------- ------------------ ---------------- ---------------
      switch_A_1(xxxxxxxxxxx)     cluster-network    10.1.1.X         NX3132V
           Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxx
            Is Monitored: false
                  Reason: IP address not reachable
Software Version: Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS) Software, Version 7.0(3)I4(1)
          Version Source: CDP

  • This results in switch health being degraded:
