After NX-OS Update, Cisco Switch is not able to boot with error

Issue

  • After performing NX-OS firmware update, Cisco switch is not reachable remotely
  • Switch is confirmed to be powered on
  • Local console connection to switch is working
  • When connected to console the following output is observed during boot up:

ERROR: module device entry not created
Installing if_index module with port mode 6 ... done.
************* WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! *************
* This image is not compatible with *
* the current hardware platform. *
* Rebooting system. *
******************************************************


/isan/etc/rc.cleanup ignoring inittab invocations
Stoping third party daemons
Sending all processes the TERM signal...
Sending all processes the KILL signal...
Unmounting filesystems...
[ 134.174180] reboot: Restarting system
