Unable to receive test email after triggering test email from Brocade switch using mapconfig --testmail

Issue

  • Unable to receive test email after triggering test email from Brocade switch using "mapconfig --testmail".
  • While triggering test email from brocade switch "mapconfig --testmail" ,ping to the SMTP relay server is successful.  But no packets captured during test email triggered.

 

  • Below raslog message is logged on switch under errdump-

Alert msg:"2024/09/11-19:40:01, [MAPS-1206], 3127, CHASSIS, INFO, switch, A MAPS email notification sent from the switch could not be delivered to Email server."

 

  • From the errdump, it appears that the MAPS emails are unable to be sent due to inability to reach the email server.  

2024/08/27-08:00:00, [MAPS-1207], 3095, CHASSIS, INFO, switch, There were 2 email delivery errors in the last hour.
2024/08/28-18:42:01, [MAPS-1206], 3096, CHASSIS, INFO, switch, A MAPS email notification sent from the switch could not be delivered to Email server.
2024/08/28-19:00:00, [MAPS-1207], 3097, CHASSIS, INFO, switch, There were 4 email delivery errors in the last hour.
2024/08/31-18:38:00, [MAPS-1206], 3098, CHASSIS, INFO, switch A MAPS email notification sent from the switch could not be delivered to Email server.

 

  • Verify the configuration for MAPS using mapsconfig --show and ensure that  the Mail Recipient and Mail from Address listed correctly.

  • The "relayconfig --show" output indicated that the Relay Domain Name is "snmp". Ensure Relay Domain Name that is set is valid and correct.

switch:FID128:root> relayconfig --show
Relay Host:                     10.72.217.36
Relay Domain Name:              snmp

 

  • The "dnscongig --show" output indicated that the domain name and name server IP address is not set.

  • On the switch logged in as 'root' and echo "test email from switch" gives below output-

Switch:FID128:root> echo "test email from switch" | sendmail -v xxxx@xyz.com
Who are you?: Permission denied
tatacommunications.com: Name server timeout
xxxx@xyz.com... Transient parse error -- message queued for future delivery
xxxx@xyz.com... queued
