KMIP Server Connection Failure after controller replacement

  • E-Series Simplex with FIPS-enabled drives

Issue

  • After replacing E-Series controller in a StorageGRID Appliance, following alerts are reported in SANtricity System Manager, even though all drives are optimal:
    • KMIP_SERVER_CONNECTION_FAILURE-Recovery Failure Type Code: 486
    • SECURITY_GET_KEY-Recovery Failure Type Code: 331
  • Under Settings > System, Key Management Method is set to External when it originally was Internal  
  • Drives are locked due to the inability to connect to the key management server and import lock key.
