500 Error when running connection test from External Key Manager to E-series

Issue

When attempting a connection test to the E-series controllers from the external key manager server;  The API command returns a response of 500 one of the controllers while the alternate controller passes the check successfully.
 
example of API error:
Error: Problem with REST API call to test EKM connectivity from controller : ERROR: HTTPS POST error code: 500, error message: Can't connect to :443
