E-Series replacement controller locks down due to auto synchronization failure

  • NetApp SANtricity 11.70.4 or newer

Issue

  • After replacing an E-Series controller, the replacement enters into a lock down state due to mismatched firmware. 
  • The native (alternate) controller reports auto code synchronization (ACS) failure due to missing bundle metadata file. Error "/bundle/metadata.active/metadata doesn't exist" can be seen in the journal logs:
    • The journal logs can be retrieved from the diag shell using this command: sudo journalctl --since "2 days ago"

  • The replacement controller reports ACS no valid Dom0Image found in the eos controller shell or the console logs available in diag (/var/log/eos-_eos_console.log)

  • The replacement controller reports repeadetly ICON MsgQ Error!!! in the eos controller shell or the console logs available in diag (/var/log/eos-_eos_console.log) until the issue is resolved.
