Event Summary
- Santricity reports a impending drive failure, this means that the drive could/should fail soon.
- The data on the drive is still available to the E-Series system.
Validate
- Login to Santricity Storage Manager or Santricity System Manager
- Verify from the Hardware page if the disk shows as impending failure
- The event log should report one or more of the following errors:
Event type: 2285 Description: Impending drive failure detected by drive
Event type:101f Description: Summary of impending drive failure detected by controller
Event type: 1023 Description: Drive copy triggered by a controller detected impending drive failure
Resolution
- Monitor the system and check within several hours drive should fail.
- This will result in a drive failure event E-Series Drive failure - AutoSupport Message
- If AutoSupport is enabled, this event should create a technical support case once the drive is failed.
- Replace the drive once it fails.
Additional Information
Diagnosing an impending drive failure on E-Series platforms
- It might be required to manually fail the drive if the data copy is not progressing, takes a long time, or is on hold.
NOTE: Only perform this action when instructed by NetApp Technical Support.- In SANtricity System Manager, navigate to the Hardware tab.
- Select the drive in question, then select Cancel Fail.
- Manually fail the drive with Copy contents of drive before failing unselected.
- If multiple drives are going into impending failure, do not fail and replace them all at the same time. The failures may be firmware-related.
